Come and play with light & shadow. Each week you will use these elements in a different way, exploring their properties.

Inspired by Tianli Zu’s exhibition, Blurring Boundaries, this series of workshops have been designed for you to delve into some very different creative processes.

Facilitator Michele Barker invites you to experiment with a range of materials and processes that explore how light, and shadow can be the starting point of a whole new creative journey.

About Michele Barker: Michele is part of the Gallery’s education team and an artist working in the field of media arts with a focus on experimental cinema.

Week 1, Tuesday 21 May: Cyanotypes and papercuts: Come and explore the oldest form of photography - the cyanotype. This camera-less process involves UV light and iron salts to create stunning white and Prussian blue images.

Week 2, Tuesday 28 May: Pin hole cameras or continue with cyanotypes (we know they are addictive!) Pin hole cameras are simple though can create sophisticated imagery – come and learn some new tricks and ideas.

Week 3, Tuesday 4 June: Silhouettes and flipbooks: Engage in shadow and light to create imagery for an animated flipbook of your own, and establish foundational processes for future works of art.

Important information:

  • All materials are included in the cost.
  • Cost is $120 for 3-weeks, or $45 per week plus booking fee.
